I came across a picture  http://www.bonanza.com/booths/Hillealogy/items/79906769  and was inspired  by it to make a scarf.  I finally got around to doing  it. My thought was to make it in team colors.

My Husband is a Bronco’s Fan  so i made this one in Bronco colors. I am a Titan Fan.

I kept the pattern simple, made the foot ball  pattern easy to work in HDC.  Stitched the center part with a blunt needle.

How i did this was clever thinking, took my blunt needle & white yarn put it in the middle from the under side of my footballs in the row with 12 stitches, ran it 2 times from top to bottom ( front to back) of football between 6th stitch on both rows with 12. then slipped it on the under side threw 2 loops(Away from middle) Then across to the other side to make my first crossing stitch and angel it a little , like a zig zag,so your not stitching in the same place to create the 5 stitches across the line you made. Both sides will look the same  🙂 Mine were a little sloppy in places. Tell i got the hang of it. Leave a small tail on both ends and slip it under the brown stitches to the white and run it threw the white loops then back threw the same loops skipping the last loop you went threw so you lock it in place, Cut and stretch it back in place. I like this option, so if i find i did some thing wrong i can go back with ease to find the tail and fix it. 🙂

Worked 3 rows of colors around the foot balls. I didn’t get fancy with the stitches,  I am sure some one out there  can make this even better looking with another stitch used.  I did try a few  but was not happy with the out come.

So if your looking to make a super bowl scarf, or just a scarf to honor your team  here is what you will need  to do.

Foot ball Scarf

Stitches Used

Chain~ ch

Slip Stitch~ sl st

Half Double Crochet ~hcd

Sc2tog~ Decrease

Double Crochet ~ dc

Worst Weight Yarn ( brown and white) H hook, Blunt needle for sewing. American Terms

One Foot ball measures 5 inches. 3 and ½ inches wide.

To change colors in each of the 2 rows, work the first stitch but do not complete it.(( 3 loops on hook)). Drop brown yarn , pick up white, draw threw the brown loops on hook with white. Leave a tail long enough to work back in as you  work over brown with your white tail across the row. When your at the last white stitch drop white yarn ( like  you did above) , leave a tail to be weaved in and cut. Now work your brown as Normal. You will need to do this 2 times in each Foot Ball.

To start your Second Foot Ball chain 1, turn and hdc in same space, Now Your on Row 1 above put 2 hdc in loops and follow Row 2 down to this and repeat. To length. ( I made 12 foot balls for my scarf. It came out longer than i expected. Adult Size )

They do tend to curl tell you work the 2 other rows. I did like how it puffed a little to make them look more like footballs.

Then  work your  2 colors , pick one to do first, attach to tip of football  chain 3, 2 dc in same space. The chain 3 counts as one dc.  I put about 26 dc around each foot ball, work your way around to the starting chain  slip stitch cut. weave in the end. Start 2nd row  in your next color. Work over the last row in dc  all the way back around and cut.

you can use a 3rd color in hdc and work around  (and or) if you like to Make a different edge a Reverse sc works well too 🙂

That’s it I hope your Fan  loves the Scarf and i would like to say Thank you to the Creator  of the  Football Afghan Lapghan Throw Stadium Blanket.  I did not buy this pattern from  the Creator or Copy it. I was ” only Inspired ”  to make the Scarf  from the picture as i stated in the start. Was not meant to take any thing away from The  Wonderful pattern made by this Very Clever person 🙂

My Latest  thought : If your crafty Put the Super Bowl numbers on there some where. I was thinking  of a  47  hanging from the end or Super Bowl XLVII on it some where, or just the XLVII.

You could give it a personal touch  with just a  ” name” or  even the numbers of the favorite players on each football.?

here is the colors for your Scarf  http://www.thepaperframer.com/TeamColors.php?type=nfl
